Gone forever are the days of four-engine jets made of aluminum. The latest episode of PilotsEYE.tv introduces the new Airbus A350, made using the most modern construction methods yet for a commercial aircraft. Most significantly, the A350 boasts 20% less weight and 25% lower fuel consumption.

The most important man in the film is the head of the fleet, Captain Martin Hoell, who allowed PilotsEYE to accompany him on his visits to factories in Hamburg and Bremen and even to the final assembly line (FAL) in Toulouse. Aboard the maiden flight from Munich to Boston, he describes the individual stages of manu¬facturing needed to make this, the first of 25 aircraft for whose phasing in he is responsible.

For the first time in the ten years of PilotsEYE.tv's existence, it was possible to film the hallowed delivery flight, during which, for example, all the hydraulic systems necessary for steering the actual flight are turned off. A truly “high-level emergency test”.

Also for the first time, the film crew was able to turn their cameras on the Iron Bird, the skeleton aircraft built in a secret hangar for initial flight tests three years before the prototype.

In der neuen Folge von PilotsEYE.tv wird der neue Airbus A350 vorgestellt, der für die der­­­­zeit modernste Bauweise eines Verkehrs­flug­zeuges steht. Der wichtigste Mann des Filmes ist Flottenchef und Kapitän Martin Hoell, der sich bei seinen Fabrikbesuchen in Ham­burg, Bre­men und bis in die Final Assembly Line (FAL) nach Toulouse be­glei­­­ten hat lassen. Eingebettet in den Erstflug von München nach Bos­­ton, erzählt er von den einzelnen Fertigungs­schritten dieses er­sten von 25 Flugzeugen, für deren Indienststellung er verantwortlich ist.

Erstmals in zehn Jahren PilotEYE.tv gelang es, den fast heiligen Abnahmeflug zu filmen, bei dem zum Beispiel alle für die Steuerung notwendigen Hydrauliksysteme im tatsächlichen Flug ausgeschaltet werden. Ein echter “Highly Emergency Test“.

Ebenso durften die Kameras erstmals auf den Iron Bird gerichtet wer­den, das skelettierte Flugzeug, das bereits drei Jahre vor dem Proto­­­ty­pen in einem geheimen Hangar für erste Flugtests ge­baut wurde.
